Frequently asked questions:

Q: Where is the LOVE of CLAY studio?

A: We are located at 26723 Halite Court in Wyoming, MN.

Just 30 minutes north of St Paul, only 3 miles east of highway 35.

Q: How does the class work?

A: You'll start with a flat slab of clay that you will decorate with stamps, textures or carving and then form into the chosen project which will remain at my studio to dry. Once bone dry (7-10 days), it will go through the first firing (bisque), next we will dip your piece in a glaze of your choice and go into the second firing (glaze) and items will be ready for pickup in 3 to 4 weeks.

Q: What is the setting?

A: The handbuilding clay labs are held in my home studio on our hobby farm.

We have a finished barn that houses my art studio, multi-use workshop and an additional recreation area for our home.  You'll likely see cats, dogs, chickens and ducks roaming the yard during your visit.

Q: What is included in the cost?

A: We provide the studio space, all materials, tools and two kiln firings.  Best of all, we do the cleanup!

Q: Can I bring someone under 16 years old?

A:  Our clay lab projects are geared toward students 16 and older.  If you are interested in bringing children under 16 to a class, please email me and we can discuss options for a private class.

Q: Are the clays and glazes you use food safe and lead free?

A: Absolutely.  All clays and glazes are food, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.  Note: If you add anything to your pot like rubber or cork feet, we recommend hand washing and you should not put pieces in microwave or oven.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Although hand building with clay is not as messy as wheel work, it is a good idea to wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty.

Q: What if my piece doesn't work out?

A: YAs your clay coach I will do my best to guide you through the handbuilding process to create a piece that will withstand the stresses of two seperate kiln firings.  That being said, very infrequently a piece will crack, split or break during this process.  If that happens, we will work with you to find an agreeable solution.

Q: What if I can't make it to my scheduled lab?

A: Cancellations must be made by phone or email 48 hours prior to the start of lab for a full refund of reservation fee.

Q: Can I buy a gift certificate?

A: We have gift certificates available for purchase that can be used toward the registration fee for any available clay lab.  Gift certificates are good for 12 months from date of purchase and will retain value if cancellation policy is followed.  All gift certificate sales are final.
